Product Description

Botanical Name: Calendula officinalis

Plant Family: Asteraceae (Compositae)

Botanical Description:
Calendula, scientifically known as Calendula officinalis, is a flowering plant belonging to the Asteraceae family, which also includes daisies and sunflowers. It is native to the Mediterranean region but is now cultivated worldwide for its medicinal and ornamental value. Calendula is an annual or short-lived perennial herb with bright yellow to orange flowers that resemble daisies. The flowers have a characteristic daisy-like appearance with multiple petals surrounding a central disk. Calendula grows up to 30-60 centimeters in height and features lance-shaped leaves with a slightly hairy texture. The plant blooms throughout the growing season, producing abundant flowers that are rich in medicinal compounds.

Introduction:
Calendula has been used for centuries in traditional herbal medicine for its diverse therapeutic properties. It is revered for its soothing, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects. Calendula is commonly used in topical preparations, including creams, ointments, and salves, to promote wound healing, soothe skin irritations, and support overall skin health. Additionally, calendula flowers are edible and can be used to add colour and flavour to culinary dishes, salads, and teas.

Preparations:
Calendula Infused Oil: Prepare calendula-infused oil by steeping dried calendula flowers in a carrier oil, such as olive oil or almond oil, for several weeks. Strain the oil and store it in a dark glass bottle.
Calendula Cream or Ointment: Calendula creams or ointments are commercially available or can be made at home using calendula-infused oil and beeswax. These topical preparations can be applied to minor wounds, cuts, burns, or skin conditions to soothe irritation and promote healing.
Calendula Tea: Prepare calendula tea by steeping dried calendula flowers in hot water for 10-15 minutes. Strain the tea and allow it to cool before drinking.
